The unthinkable happened. Erik's cancer spread.

It all started with an innocent spot on his ear in 2008. The doctors initially thought it was harmless but to be on the safe side they wanted to get rid of it. After getting the test results back the spot proved to be of the worst possible kind - malignant melanoma, a severe form of skin cancer.
Surgery was a success and everything appeared to be back to normal besides the regular check-ups. Life seemed bright; we bought a new flat and started planning our future. Until one day our plans were brought to a halt. During a check up in October 2010 Erik told the doctor he was having headaches, which he normally rarely had. They decided to take an x-ray of his brain. On the 23rd of October we got a call from the hospital and they wanted us to come in. The cancer had spread to his brain and unfortunately surgery would be impossible. They put him on chemotherapy but nothing helped against the very aggressive form of cancer. Three weeks before Erik passed away the doctors put him under observation and after that it all happened very quickly. Erik took a turn for the worse. Further treatment was no longer possible according to the medical team.
